Imphal, February 27 2016 :
Located
about 73 kms from the State
capital, Nongam Satang village
is under the Tengnoupal block
of Chandel district with just
over 40 house holds.
They have
been facing severe shortage of
basic amenities.
Being a remote village lo-
cated along India-Myanmar
border, the village is hardly
visited by elected representa-
tives or officials of any
department like health, educa-
tion, transport etc.
A villager informed
The
Sangai Express
that till to-
day none of the elected repre-
sentatives has ever visited the
place.
Lack of health care fa-
cilities in the area has made
the villagers to take extreme
risk of venturing in the terri-
tory of Myanmar and go for
help.
Moreover, the village is
in a malaria prone area.
He
urged the authorities con-
cerned to open health care
facilities in the area.
The villager further stated
that the local Lower Primary
school is short of infrastruc-
ture and manpower.
The only
source of water supply for the
villagers is located three kilo-
metres away from the village.
The only connecting road
to the village from Tengnou-
pal is in pathetic condition and
during monsoon season, the
road gets worst, he added.
Further he urged the con-
cerned authorities to take up
steps and provide basic
amenities to villagers.
Neighbouring village
Chaktong village faces the same difficulties as that of Satang village.
A visiting team of Information Centre for Hill Areas,
Manipur (ICHAM) who came for a joint survey along the
along the international border areas of Tengnoupal block of
Chandel district, assured to donate 15 bundles of GI sheet to
villagers of Nongam Satang village and 10 bundles of GI
sheet to Chaktong village.
