All Manipur Students Guardians
Organisation (AMSGO) has urged the State Government to
upgrade aided colleges to the status of full-fledged Government
colleges and fill up vacant teachers' posts.
Speaking to reporters AMSGO secretary S Sumati said
that six aided colleges - Thambal Marik College, Liberal
College, Kakching Khunou College, Standard College,
Biramangol College and Mayai Lambi College - are in poor
state due to Government apathy.
Although, these colleges had a total of 105 approved teach-
ers in the past, this figure has been reduced to 70 due to
service superannuation of many teachers.
Sumati said that no teacher was appointed by the Govern-
ment after it appointed 105 teachers in 1987.
In academic session 2013-14, these colleges had 10,852
students, she said and added that the teachers have been
however leading their life in penury due to meagre salary.
She urged the State Government to formulate a policy for
aided colleges.
