AMSU questions dignity of MLAs and Ministers

Following the suspension of five Manipur
police personnel by the State Government after they allegedly
harassed members of Nagaland based, Naga Students' Federation
(NSF) on Feb 14, the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has
questioned the dignity of the sitting MLAs and Ministers of the
State Government.
Decrying that the act of suspension of the police personnel
as condemnable, president of AMSU Sanasam Subhaschandra
told media persons at AMSU GHQ that the State Government
should justify the suspension when the Deputy Chief Minister
had earlier claimed during the ongoing State Assembly session
that no wrong was done by the police as it was normal, routine
frisking and checking "If the State Government fails to give any good reason, then there
should be no further frisking or routine check by State police force
or any other para-military forces in the State," Subhaschandra
demanded.
If the so called student leaders of NSF were severely
harassed and tortured medical report should be produced by
the State Government to back up the suspension of the five
police personnel.
Further, he asked the police personnel stationed at Senapati
led by the Superintendent of Police that why the vehicles
owned by Meitei community were allowed to be vandalized
and targeted by NSF volunteers.
He stated that it is unfortu-
nate to get communal diktats from NSF to impose a ban on
Meitei owned vehicles in Naga dominated areas after the
incident.
Who is playing the communal card, the police or the NSF?,
he asked.
Such politics are not acceptable and asked why NSF
has targeted Meitei community.
After the NSF has removed the ban after the suspension,
AMSU has also removed its ban on all Nagaland related
activities in Manipur.
He cautioned that NSF must refrain from inciting commu-
nal hatred among the Manipuris and stated that they must have
a clear picture of what Manipur is.
The State is not only for
Meitei community but other ethnic communities reside in the
State too where any blame of any incident should not be
targeted towards the Meitei, he added.
General secretary of AMSU Manjit Sarangthem asked why
the Meitei is communally dragged into the incident.
He blamed
that the State Government must be held responsible for selling
off its dignity by suspending police personnel on mere specu-
lation following the diktats of NSF.
He reminded that in the ILP issue, police personnel in-
volved in the killing of Robinhood were suspended after days
of hue and cry, but for such petty issue suspending five police
personnel show that the State Government has no determina-
tion to safeguard the interest of every citizen of the State.
All the sitting MLAs and Ministers must resign on moral
ground, he added.
