Sadar Hills, October 24 2016:
Normal life and traffic movement along Imphal-Dimapur road on National Highway 2 was disrupted all of a sudden with the imposition of a lightning bandh by volunteers of ATSUM this today at about 1 pm.
Volunteers of ATSUM were seen burning tyres at different location along Imphal-Dimapur road imposing the bandh reportedly due to the alleged highhandedness of the State security forces over the peaceful tribal student protestors in front of Manipur University gate today.
The lightning blockade ended at about 4.30 pm and by then the highway was choc-a-bloc with loaded vehicles.
ATSUM volunteers blocked the highway at Kangpokpi, Keithelmanbi, Motbung and Gamgiphai at Sadar Hills while a similar incident has also been reported from Senapati DHQs.
Tyres were burnt in good numbers restricting all Inter-State and State passenger buses, wingers, loaded trucks at Kangpokpi by ATSUM volunteers from 12.30 pm.
However, business establishment in the town remained open.
Kangpokpi police personnel were seen deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident and control the situation effectively.
Many vehicles were also seen stranded along the highways at different location where the bandh was enforced.
The lightning bandh was withdrawn reportedly after the tribal student's protestors in front of MU gate who had been arrested by the police were released.
There is no untoward incident reported during the 4 hour lightning bandh against the alleged indifferent attitude and highhandedness of the state security force and MU authority over the reservation issue.
