Imphal, August 16 2011:
The Opposition is all set to take up various important issues, including Government job offer to families of those who have lost their lives in the June 18 incident and the issue of Sangakpham bomb blast, during the ensuing three-day long monsoon session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly schedule to begin from August 24, leader of the MPP Legislature Wing O Joy has stated.
Interacting with media-persons on the sideline of concluding function of a three-day long tree plantation drive cum environmental organised by Indo-Myanmar Road Working Association, Canchipur along the roads ion and around Manipur University today, O Joy informed that as there would be no other Bills apart from one or two that would put up from the side of the Government in the ensuing Assembly session, the Opposition would take up various important issues confronting the State and its people for serious discussion.
Among them, the Opposition would move the House for discussion on issues like offering Government jobs to families of those who lost their lives in June 18 Uprising as well as on the recent Sangakpham bomb blast, O Joy disclosed.
If the involvement of NSCN (IM) in the Sangakpham bomb blast has been confrimed as stated by the Chief Minister, why would the Government of India continue to patronage NSCN (IM), which is indulging in acts of terrorism ?, he questioned.
People all over the world have denounced it, but terrorism is still active in Manipur, O Joy said, adding that the India Government should not ignore the act of terrorism being perpetrated by NSCN (IM) .
The Speaker should also not act like a CRPF Commandant when such issues/problems are taken up for debate and discussion in the House and every Members should be given the opportunity to air their opinions, O Joy said.
On the demand for converting Sadar Hills and Jiribam into revenue districts, O Joy observed that the issue should not be viewed through prism of community.
From the point of administrative conveniences, many districts could be created.
The demands are justifiable.
However, resorting to general strike and economic blockade, unleashing violence and human casualties would not do any good.
On the need for protection of ecology and environment, O Joy pointed out that it is the top priority in other developed countries of the world today.
As part of this effort, under the sponsorship of Government of India, the Manipur Government would be taking up four schemes in Langthabal area for the preservation of environment and bio-diversity.
Steps have also been taken up for the protection of Heibok bio-diversity and its surrounding areas, beautification of Chandranadi and, development of Lilakhong as a tourist spot, O Joy informed, while appealing to the people for ensuring protection of their surrounding environment.
