Imphal, May 04 2021:
It is high time volunteers are given training to aid in the fight against COVID-19 as health worker shortage might be a problem in the coming days.
All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) said this in a statement issued today and added that AMSU members had been volunteering in various work related to Covid 19 since the last one year and will continue to do so.
AMSU urged the Government to take up all necessary steps to prevent shortage of oxygen, medicines or bed in the wake of the second wave which has also reached the state.
The Government also should make sure that medical treatment facilities for non-Covid cases are available as most of the hospitals are now filling up fast with Covid cases, added the statement.
Regarding the vaccination drive, AMSU appealed the Government to ensure that everyone is vaccinated at the earliest without any discrimination and also to keep a check on the amount being charged by private hospitals for vaccination.
As there has been information that if maximum people in 18-45 age group is vaccinated at once, there might be shortage of blood in blood banks and in this regard AMSU volunteers are ready to donate blood in requirement and also will be vaccinated in phase.
The statement also stated the need for frequent awareness programmes by medical expert to check the spread of fake news and also to make the public more aware about the virus.
