The Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has been urged to ascertain veracity of the Assam Rifles' claim that the two persons apprehended from Thoubal Bazar on September 25 are actually members of banned outfit even as a JAC had been constituted formed on the case.
A JAC delegation also called on the CM today to convey that both are innocent sustaining livelihood as fishermen.
Ahead of meeting the CM, JAC representatives told newspersons that the arrested duo namely Md Amir Khan alias Ibocha (30) s/o Ajimuddin and Md Ajmir Khan alias thidum (35) s/o Rajauddin were apprehended from Thoubal bazar on September 25 afternoon while they on their way to purchase nylon threat to weave fishing net.
The JAC members outrightly rejecting statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) that claimed the two persons from Sangaiyumpham Cherapur Mathak Leikai as PULF cadres, also reiterated that Amir Khan and Ajmir Khan had left their respective homes on the particular day for Thoubal bazar to purchase material for making fishing net.
According to the JAC secretary Abir Khan both Amir Khan and Ajmir Khan were handed over to Thoubal police station yesterday by authorities of 34 Assam Rifles.
He also contended that the AR team in civilian clothes was led by one Sharma described as a moustached non-local individual who could also speak Manipuri (meiteilon).
In lodging the complaint to the CM the JAC members reportedly demanded that both the arrested persons be released without any condition by tomorrow besides drawing the CM's attention that AR troops had been allegedly harassing Sangaiyumpham locals.
Abir Khan also cautioned that in case the demands are not honoured resorting to agitation could not be ruled out.
