The State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department has charted for the distribution of poultry chicks in large scale after around 1.50 lakh of poultries were culled in 2007 after the confirmation of bird-flu in the State.
Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (VAH), Dr Th Jibon said, the state government had acquired 2000 chicks as 'parent stock from Hyderabad in 2008 and they were reared at the state poultry farm located at Porompat.
The poultries have begun hatching now.
The chicks then will be reached out to the people.
The department has initiated steps to do so.
He said, 10,000 more chicks will be acquired from Indias Farm located at Hyderabad.
The department is taking extra-care for the success of it.
It may be recalled that the outbreak of bird-flu was confirmed in Manipur in July 2007. Many poultry products were culled in the operation after the confirmation of bird-flu in the state.
