Imphal, September 27 2009:
The number of people who give up everything they have and dedicate their lives to the cause of less fortunate fellow beings in the society may be few but they can put a smile on the wearied faces of many.
Septuagenarian Yangoijam Gunindro is one such noble who has made it a mission of his life to take care of the poor and marginalised sections of the society.
Also known by the title of Yangoi Piba, on account of being the Piba (headman) of his clan, 70-year old Gunindro joined hands with some like-minded persons in set up an organisation called Yaibirel on July 16, 1983 .

Subsequently, in 1985, an old age home was established under this organisation at Loushangkhong in Imphal East District.
Unfortunately, following the passing away of one of the chief functionaries of Yaibirel, the home ceased to function in 1987 and had to be shifted from its place of establishment due to some difficulties.
Inspite of all these difficulties, Yaibirel did not lost sight of its objective.
Toward 1991, Yaibirel set up an orphanage at Keibi Sanapat and as an extension of the orphanage, Yaibirel Maheikol, a school offering classes upto standard VI was also established to take care of the education of the children in the surrounding villages at an affordable cost.
From 1991 to 2003, the orphanage provided shelter to 13 children who have been either orphaned or relinquished by their parents/relatives.
However, after this, functioning of the orphanage remained suffering for four years.
In October 2007, Yangoi Piba took a resolute stand of reviving the orphanage.
For one complete month, Yangoi Piba worked alone in the complex of the orphanage clearing the overgrown grasses every day.
Seeing his dedication and sheer determination, other people also started extending their help and support.
As a result of which the school and the orphanage resumed operation once again.
Speaking of the dedication of Yangoijam Gunindro to the cause of his fellow beings, principal of Yaibirel Maheikol S Nimai summed up by saying that 'he is a noble soul'.
Born in Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, Gunindro had served as a clerk in CC Higher Secondary School for 39 years.
A strong advocate of the traditional values, Gunindro, who had held high posts in various religious organisations in the past, explained that Yaibirel has been established with the main objective of bringing together people of various religious backgrounds for the common causes of humanity.
''We should close our eyes and pray to god to make wishes, and if these wishes could be realised then there would be peace in the society', he said.
According to his wife, Dasumati, Gunindro is so engrossed in his cause that he even donated his meagre monthly salary towards establishment of the orphanage and when there is shortage of fund, he borrowed money from other people.
''It was a problem to deal with those people when they came asking to return the money'', she informed.
It is said that so far Yaibirel has not received any funding from the side of the Government.
But efforts are being made to submit a proposal in this regard.
