Senapati/Dimapur, January 25 2020:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed shock and grief at the "sudden" demise of M Vero, the first founding president of the Naga Hoho.
M Vero was also the first Rajya Sabha MP from the State of Nagaland.
M Vero passed away in Dimapur on January 24 morning.
He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
A grand funeral service was held on Saturday at Agri Expo Ground in Dimapur where a large number of people paid their tributes.
According to the UNC condolence message, M Vero was one person who had contributed much towards bringing closer ties with neighbouring communities and the "outside" world.
The UNC also said that his sacrifice with "unwavering commitment to our national cause" can never be forgotten.
"We will continue to remember him as a great Naga leader and the architect of the Naga Hoho formation through which he guided the Nagas with wisdom," the UNC added.
The UNC then said, "Today, our Naga leader who could go along with the young and the aged is no more but his image will go on shining in the minds of the Naga people" .
The UNC then shared the pains and sorrows of the grief-stricken family of the late leader.
Also condoling M Vero's demise, Q Tuccu, chairman of the NSCN-IM said that M Vero was a stalwart Naga public leader who made a mark in his life as a person who left no stone unturned to show his love and concern for the Naga issue by appealing to the Naga national political groups to reconcile through the spirit of forgive and forget.
"With this objective in mind he toured to far off places like Kathmandu, Bangladesh border, Myanmar, Atlanta (USA) and Bangkok.
He was, therefore, a very familiar face when it comes to Naga issue and never wavered in his effort for Naga unity to hasten the process of Naga political solution," stated the NSCN-IM chairman.
Q Tuccu then said that, M Vero, as a founder president of Naga Hoho, proved himself as a man for the Nagas and undertook extensive tours in Nagaland, neighboring states and shuttled between Kohima and New Delhi.
"For his high profile credentials as a Naga leader, the Nagas in general and the GPRN in particular would remember his unblemished leadership and dedicated service for the Naga people," Q Tuccu added.
Q Tuccu then said that the NSCN-IM saluted "this great man of Nagas" and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members of M.Vero who died after giving his "best service" for the Naga people .
