Imphal, January 25 2020:
Amid the apprehension of being 'evacuated' prevailing among the players, Parents' Committee SAI/STC Khuman Lampak has sought the attention of the Government and authorities concerned no to remove any discipline (sports event) .
It may be noted that the players and their guardians have been apprehensive that some players may be removed from the SAI Khuman Lampak after Radheshyam Julaniya, Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Secretary, GoI allegedly made a statement recently, that some of the disciplines (events) may be removed from the centre.
Urging the Government and the authorities concerned not to discontinue any event, the committee's secretary K Birbal, at Manipur Press Club today, said that the SAI Khuman Lampak has produced many National and international players who have on many occasions brought fame to India.
"Seven out of the 17 Olympians of Manipur and 10 among the 19 Arjuna Awardees are from the SAI/STC," he said expressing that removal of some disciplines (events) would affect the careers of the players at the centre and kill dreams of many budding players and children who want to venture into the disciplines concerned.
Earlier on January 22, players and guardians had staged a sit-in urging Government to save the institutions and its players.
The Parents' Committee SAI/STC Khuman Lampak has cautioned that they will be force to launch intense agitation with the support of CSOs and the people if the players' concerns are not addressed by the Government at the earliest The committee also urged authorities concerned not to move the SAI/STC from the Khuman Lampak complex.
