Imphal, December 22 2014:
A house which is in the initial stage of construction was vandalised by a group of people at Chingkham village, Thoubal district.
The house being constructed anew at the southern foot of Chingkham hills belong to one Thomas Thaimei (35) and it was vandalised by around 200 people of the surrounding villages at around 9 am today.
Both Chingkham village as well as the assailants have been claiming the area where the house was built.
Even though Chingkham villagers informed Lilong police station and the OC himself came to the scene, the police team did not say anything to control or stop the mob who were vandalising the house, said a source.
Chingkham village was established since the reign of king Thawanthaba.
People settled in the surrounding areas are encroachers or their plots were sold off to them by Chingkham village unable to resist continuous encroachment.
A tense stand-off was also seen in the past between the two sides as a result of the land dispute.
The new house was constructed following a Court ruling which said that only Chingkham villagers can have access to the disputed site, added the source.
