A one-day Legislative Specific to Women and Manipuri Society seminar under the aegis of MU Working Women's Association (MUWA) was held today at Women's Facilty centre.
MUWA president Professor Asha Gupta, retired District and Session Judge Gomti, MU Professor L Kunjeshori, MU Professor N Pramodini and MU Professor Vijyalakshmi were the resource persons of today's seminar.
The seminar elaborated on the different types of crimes inflicted upon women, the rights provided by the Constitution for women and the ways to get assistance from law.
MU Professor Vijyalakshmi, during her speech said the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), implemented in the State, direct or indirectly affects the lives of women of the State.
Supporting Sharmila and her protest against the Act, Vijyalakshmi also called for mass support from the people.
The Professor further expressed promotion and awareness of women across the State.
Speaking on the occasion, N Pramodini, Professor, MU said mere organising of seminars and awareness campaigns alone would not bring about changes in the position of women.
Women need to participate individually in the struggle for emancipation, Pramodini added.
Professor Asha Gupta also spoke on the seminar on Legislative Specific to Women and Manipuri Society held today.
