Imphal, December 19 2021:
MLA D Korungthang may quit Con-gress party and seek re-elec- tion from Tengnoupal Assembly segment in the forthcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket.
Sources informed that Tengnoupal Assembly segment is likely to witness pitched political battles in the forthcoming State Assembly election.
As a political strategy to win the election and retain Teng-noupal seat, Korungthang may quit Congress party and contest the election on NPF ticket.
Notably, Letpao Haokip who is a Cabinet Minister in the N Biren Government had already declared that he would contest the forthcoming election in Tengnoupal AC instead of Chandel AC from where he was elected to the State Assembly in the last general election.
Even though Letpao Haokip contested the previous election under the banner of National People's Party (NPP), there is a strong possibility of Letpao Haokip contesting the 2022 election on BJP ticket, according to the sources.
The sources further informed that MLA D Korungthang may resign from the membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly tomorrow and he may quit Congress party soon after.
Notably, D Korungthang is presently the working president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
As such, he would talk with MPCC leaders about the unfolding political situation in Tengnoupal AC as well as possible future scenario before leaving the Congress party, the sources added.
