Federation of Haomee (FoH) has urged the government to hold the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state so as to detect and deport illegal migrants prior to tabling of the proposed ADC Bill 2021 .
In a release, FoH publicity secretary Dr Leishemba Mangang recalled the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the parliament session on November 20, 2019 that NRC would be extended to every part of India.
However, the Home Minister's announcement is yet to be translated into action even after a lapse of two years, he added.
Dr Leishemba pointed out that ADC Bill 2021 chapter HI sub-clause no XXXI stating 'Establishment and recognition of new villages within respective autonomous district with concurrence of the Hill Areas Committee' will aid the migrants to reside in the place of their migration, thus letting them to become the authority.
Moreover, indigenous identity, customary rights and tradition should not be controlled by ADC, he pointed out.
Dr Leishemba said that the number of Naga villages was 453 and Kuki villages was 418 in 1947 while in 2019, the number of Naga villages reached 877 and Kuki villages increased to 1672.The government should give a convincing explanation regarding the unnatural increase in the number of Kuki villages, he demanded.
