Imphal, December 19 2021:
Manipuri women will be successful in politics as long as there is unity among us, stated BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi.
Speaking during a Kamal Sakhi Booth Sammelan and executive meeting organised by BJP Mahila Morcha, Singjamei AC at Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Lampak on Sunday, Sharda observed that as women are leading the local bodies, which occupy the biggest platform in politics, they need to take important roles in politics as only then will there be gender equality.
"Previously, women elected leaders were often taunted as Paan shop proprietress or a saleswoman.
It must, however, be noted that almost all the women vendors are educated and simply working hard to feed their families.
Politics holds an important place in all categories and a woman is much needed in this regard.
Women already have an inherent quality of leading and managing, considering they are able to fully manage a completely different and new household after getting married.
"Thus, women will do quite well in politics.
However, there is a need to maintain unity and all women must stop nit-picking on each other.
The maternal and self-selfless instinct of women along with the ability to hold the household together could be applied in politics and unite the society.
'Kamal Shakti' signifies the strength of a woman.
In this regard, people are well aware of what the present government has been able to achieve in the last 5 years", she said and urged the womenfolk who have formed a 10-member Kamal Shakti committee in each booth, to take responsibility of carrying the message of MLA Khemchand's achievements over the years.
Sharda further urged the women of the state to take a proactive role in explaining who should be the democratic leader responsible for preserving the integrity of the state.
A peaceful and stable government is needed for the safe future of our children.
This could be made possible with active participation of women in politics, she said and urged the denizens of Singjamei AC to re-elect Y Khemchand with a higher voter count compared to the last polls.
In his speech, Y Khemchand remarked that the ruling government has been able to mend the communication and developmental gaps between the hills and the valley.
However, being a coalition government, there were often times when the government could not do many things.
Nonetheless, an absolute majority BJP government is needed for a corruption-free and efficient governance.
Khemchand then recount -ed that there were times when the CM proposed for national level appointments, but he (Khemchand) refused out of concern that nothing could be done for the constituency or the state within a short period of 2 years.
What he truly wants is to be the leader preferred by people of Singjamei and as such, appealed to the denizens of the constituency to raise his last vote count by over 10,000 votes.
The conference was attended by BJP Manila Mandal president L Loteeka, BJP Manipur Pradesh secretary Inaocha Devi, MahilaMbrcha BJP Imphal Central'District president W Sobita Devi, VPL Urea Devi, Mahila Morcha BJP Singjamei Mandal president W Dhaneswar Devi and IMC ex-mayor L Lokeshwar, councillor Bankimchandra and BJP Singjamei Mandal president Ksh Rajen as presidium members.
