Imphal, May 17 2013 :
As agreed between Education Minister M Okendro and representatives of the Coordination Committee of College Students' Unions, semester exams for BA, BSc, BCom will be held as usual.
Notably, the committee has been demanding translation of a 19 point charter of demands into action with a rider that the semester exams conducted by Manipur University would be boycotted if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
During the meeting held today, the Education Minister assured to fulfil all the demands within September 4 this year with the exception of demand number 7 .
The main demands of the coordinating committee are appointment of regular Principals in all Government colleges, construction of separate hostels for boys and girls, uninterrupted power supply and potable water facility in all colleges.
It is said that the coordination committee was able to come to an understanding with the State Government because of intervention by DESAM.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin said that the coordination committee and the Government held another meeting but the two sides could not come to any agreement.
Considering the negative impacts the impasse would have on students, another round of meeting was held today at the initiative of DESAM, and the meeting arrived at an understanding.
In case the Government fails to translate into action all the demands of the coordination committee by September 4 as assured by the Education Minister, intense forms of agitation would be launched, Islauddin said.
