NE mountaineers scale Mt Everest

The 1st North East India top of the world Mt.
Everest Expedition which was flagged off from the historic Kangla by Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat on 25th February 2013 and subsequently by President of India Pranab Mukherjee from Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 20th March 2013, today successfully scaled the highest peak of the world, Mt.
Everest (29,029 ft) at 7.30AM (Indian Standard Time) .
With the successful scaling of the summit, it will now be listed in the history of the region as the first expedition comprising exclusively of North East India mountaineers and being supported by government of India and state government to have scaled the highest of peak Mt.
Everest.
The mountaineers of the region now join the league of the best mountaineers in the world.
Anand Gurung from Sikkim was the first to reach the summit of Mt.
Everest at 7.35 AM (IST) followed by Nima Lama from Arunachal Pradesh at 8.30 AM (IST) and N Bidyapati Devi from Manipur at 9.30 AM (IST) .

N Bidyapati is the first lady from Manipur to climb the summit the Mt.
Everest.
For the remaining members, the leader of the expedition, Dr L Surjit, President of MMTA has been advised to make the attempt for scaling the summit tomorrow due to heavy wind condition.
Other members of the team attempting the summit are currently waiting for the opportune climate.
The team arrived at the Everest Base Camp (EBC) on 5th April 2013 and has been undergoing acclimatization, during the acclimatization the team reached Camp-III (24000 ft approx) on 30th April.
CM, O Ibobi and is the chief patron and DS Poonia (IAS), Chief Secretary of Manipur is the Chef-de-mission of the expedition.
The 1st North East India top of the World Mt.
Everest Expedition is the first ever expedition comprising mountaineers from six states of North East India.
16 individuals from different states are participating in this expedition including the support team.
It is being funded by North Eastern Council, Shillong, supported by Planning Department, Government of Manipur and being implemented by Manipur Mountaineering Association, Manipur.
