Cultural Forum, Manipur (CFM) celebrates 55th anniversary

The Cultural Forum, Manipur (CFM) celebrated its 55th anniversary on Friday at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here during which three members of the forum, including four personalities Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow, Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize Winner and National Film Awardee were facilitated to mark the occasion.
MLA T Mangibabu and CFM president L Iboton attended the function at the dais.
Nongthongbam Mangi Devi and Dr Chongtham Jamini Devi, both members of CFM, L Sonamani, Sahitya Akademi Translation Price Winner, Aribam Shyam Sharma, National Film Awardee, Dr Jhodhachandra Sanasam, Sahitya Akademi Awardee and Ratan Thiyam, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow were facilitated at the event.
"Ritu Mashing 149-150" and a short story book "Ngamkheigee Wangmada" were also released as part of the celebration.
A symposium on "Creation Myth of Manipur" was also organized during the function and it was moderated by Prof Naorem Khagendra Singh with Sairem Nilabir, L Ashokumar, Naorem Indramani and Chanambam Hemchandra as resource persons.
MLA Mangibabu while speaking at the event regretted that though Manipuri language has been included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constiution, it has not been printed on Indian currency yet.
Mangibabu said art and culture will go hand to hand with man as long as human society remains to exist so it is essential to develop it.
Taking exception to alleged slackness of the people as far as the development of art and culture is concerned in the state, the MLA said only the organizations work in this field adding that books written by forefathers are being ignored in Manipur.
He urged the people to become studious and to take up translation work to send outside and get benefit.
