Traffic police beat up man

Traffic police personnel severely beat up a man near the gate of Churachandpur police station at around 4 pm today.
The victim, Kumam Rajbala (43) s/o Sanal of Moirang Turenban, while narrating his ordeal to reporters here said that he was severely beaten up without giving any reason.
Rajbala said that he had been to Churachandpur in a mini truck along with one of his distant cousins Md Kabir (25) of Khabeisoi to supply eggs there.
Even as Abir went away to supply eggs, Rajbala was waiting for his cousin sitting on the driver's seat of the vehicle.
Some traffic police personnel soon appeared at the scene and asked Rajbala to show documents of the vehicle.
The traffic police personnel snatched away the key of the vehicle before Rajbala could show the documents, he added.
However, Rajbala took out the documents and showed to the traffic police personnel and enquired why the key was snatched away.
Upon this, Rajbala was dragged down from the vehicle and beaten up.
He was taken to a nearby traffic police booth and beaten up there by four personnel again.
They also threatened to put Rajbala in the lock-up if he complained.
Later, he was freed after taking his signature on a blank paper and Rs 400 by them.
Rajbala, who bore several bruises all over his body, was hospitalised in Imphal.
He drew attention of the higher authority of Manipur Police Department to look into the matter.
