Free health camps mark World Hypertension Day

In connection with the observance of World Hypertension Day, Sky Hospital today conducted a free health camp at its branch medical centre at Porompat.
Free health check-up facility and medicines were provided to 215 patients in the camp organised in association with East West Health Care and Research Institute.
Regarding this year's World Hypertension Day observance held under the theme, 'Healthy heart, healthy heart beat', Sky Hospital Chairman Dr L Shyamkishore said, maintaining proper heart beat rhythm may save many lives from strokes, heart and kidney diseases.
He added that 25 percent of the high blood pressure patients can bring down their BP to normal with the change of lifestyle.
Cutting down of salt consumption, weight control, relying more on vegetarian diet and regular worksouts may control BP up to a great extent, he said and added that anybody who has started taking BP control medicine must not stop taking this drug without consulting a doctor.
ENT, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology and general surgery facilities were made available to patients in today's health camp.
The Manipur Heart Care Society also observed the World Hypertension Day today at Naorem Birahari College.
Free medical camp (detection of high BP and diabetes) was held as part of the observance programme that was organised in collaboration with the Meira Paibi Association, Kundrakpam Makha Leikai, said a statement.
