The Myanmarese authorities have handed over 110 villagers, who took refuge in the neighbouring country following clashes between Indian Army and MPA cadres of the UNLF in the border areas, to the State Government today.
The villagers from Old Somtal, Tonthang and Shenzang of Chandel district had crossed over to Myanmar territory due to the intermittent clash between the security force and MPA activists for the past many days at Old Somtal, New Somtal, Joupi, Molcham and Dingpi areas of the same district.
The displaced villagers were handed over to Moreh SDC and the police OC by the Secretary of Tamu's District Peace and Democratic Council Major Aungthura.
The refugees, including 47 minors, were transported to the Indian boundary at Gate No I in two buses.
Yaingangpokpi outrage subsides: The body of Sagolsem Hemanta who was shot dead by unidentified persons at Yaingangpokpi Bazar last evening has been taken back by family members after post-' mortem at RIMS morgue today.
The family members agreed to take back the body after the JAC formed in connection with the killing arrived at an agreement with the CM today.
MLA of Lamlai and Art and Culture Minister Ph Parijat was also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the representatives of the JAC submitted a five-point memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting the demands raised by the people at a joint public meeting at Yaingangpokpi Bazar held this morning in connection with the incident which left two other persons injuries.
The demands of the JAC include institution of a Magisterial inquiry in the incident, payment of Rs 5 lakhs as ex-gratia to the bereaved family Members and Rs 2 lakhs each to the two injured persons and taking up security and other necessary measures so that people of various communities residing in the area could live in peace and harmony among others.
It is not sure whether the body has been taken after the Government has agreed to all the demands or under some conditions.
