Imphal, May 13 2011:
Buoyed by the change of governance in some State, that went to the polls and the results declared today, leaders of Manipur People's Party (MPP) did not rule out winds of change sweeping here in Manipur as well.
Addressing an MPP Political Conference organised by the party's Sugnu Kendra Youth Front at Kakching Khunou Bazar today, president of the regional political organisation Dr Nimaichand Luwang opined that in the 10 year continuous rule of the Congress Government people of the State are yet to achieve anything worthwhile.
Strongly emphasising that there is urgent need for a change in Manipur, he expressed that ordinary citizens are being deprived of a peaceful slumber as clanking of electric poles in the locality after dusk had been a common episode because criminal activities could not be controlled by the Government, an indication of lawlessness in the State.
The former Minister also asserted that in case MPP forms the Government, all those involved in the killing of Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina in the infamous Khwairamband Keithel firing incident would be pulled up and punished according to law.
Taking at dig at Congress leader Gaikhangam on the latter's reference to Manipur as a 'golden state', Dr Nimaichand posed as to whether the Nungba AC representative would be able to single out individuals to whom PDS items have been provided.
Another former Minister L Jatra, who also addressed the gathering said while Assam has benefited under the Congress Government of Tarun Gogoi, rampant violence and mis-governance had been dominant in the State of Manipur.
He maintained that in the 10-year term of Tarun Gogoi, Assam is heading towards peace and development compared to Manipur where issues of over six lakh children yet to get access to proper education and insurgency problem continuing to claim innocent lives are far from being addressed.
Th Chaoba, a former Union Minister, sustaining the tirade against the SPF Government claimed that Congress party-initiated events on creating awareness of flagship programmes skips the chronic problem of corruption in the State and the country.
He also condemned the Congress Government for allegedly misleading the general public through tall and make-belief claims even though number of corruption cases during the Congress rule has been on the rise.
The MPP leaders also made a joint appeal to the people to ensure defeat of the Congress party in the forthcoming assembly elections in order to facilitate return of peace and progress in Manipur.
