Greenery drive at Andro

Giving a boost to the campaign for greenery as a counter measure to the challenges posed by climate change, Andro Assembly Constituency is all set for a massive tree plantation drive.
Along with tying up with the Department concerned, one lakh saplings have been taken for planting at least 5 saplings by each households in the Constituency and MLA Shyamkumar announced Rs 5,000 to each household that ensures successful growth of the saplings into trees.
Making the announcement at the occasion of inaugurating the newly constructed Thambalnu Market shed and mini-processing unit at Yairipok today, MLA Shyamkumar, who was chief guest of the function, observed indiscriminate felling down of trees and clearing of forest without any thought for future has led to climate change posing a serious threat on the very survival of every living organisms on this earth today.
So, to replace the trees which have been fell down, new saplings have to be planted to show the world that the people of Andro are concern about the impact of climate change and want to leave behind a legacy of a green society for the future generations to come.
The newly inaugurated Thambalnu Market shed and mini-processing unit have been constructed with funding under MDS.
Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for providing the required fund for construction of Thambalnu market shed, the MLA assured that a community hall would also be constructed at Thambalnu market in time for the next Pineapple festival.
Along with this, steps have also been taken up for expansion of Tabokpi road by 5 feet on either sides and black topping of the road ahead of the nest Pineapple festival, the MLA informed.
Furthermore, the MLA announced that two loads of rice would be provided at the rate of Rs 12 per kg to the women vendors of Thambalnu market so that the profit earned from selling the rice could be utilised as fund for other developmental activities of these women vendors.
In addition, Sugar would be made available in the market at the rate of Rs 16 per kg.
In his address as guest of honour of the function, member of Talihal Zilla Parishad K Nilkamal expressed happiness that various developmental changes have come about in Andro Assembly Constituency over the last 12 years.
All these developmental changes are something that the people of Andro have never expected to see.
But all these have been made possible because a man like Shyamkumar who has vision has been elected as their representative by the people, Nilkamal said.
The president of Development Committee of Andro Kendra Fakiruddin presided over the function attended by a large number of people from different parts of Andro Assembly Constituency.
