Imphal, May 13 2011:
Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh, today said that his government is considering for conversion of 600 primary schools into model schools with funding from the Centre.
Speaking at a training programme for Congress workers on its flagship schemes and other schemes of SPF at Noney in Tamenglong district, the CM said that the step has been taken up as government is taking seriously to improve the education system in the state.
It is a must to impart education to the children.
If the number of illiterate persons dominates a society, it is sure to have a large number of anti-social elements.
Therefore, it is a must to ensure to impart education to all the children in the society, he said.
Asserting that keeping in consonance with the Centre's views Sharva Siksha Abhiyan and other education related schemes are being implemented in right earnest, Ibobi added that through such schemes and projects, the government has been able to spread compulsory education into the far flung areas of the country.
In Manipur's case, through these various schemes including SSA, Mid Day Meal, Integrated Child Development etc, the government is trying to spread education to all corners of the state which in turn will help tremendously in bringing development to the state.
