Imphal, September 12 2015 :
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has criticized the CAF&PD Department over the current steep price rise and asserted that transportation of essential commodities along Jessami road cannot be the determining factor of the skyrocketing price.
An AMSU statement on Saturday demanded the Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) to open a suitable consumer helpline in the heart of Khwairamband Keithel.
Terming the consumer helpline number arranged by CAF&PD Director M Yaiskul Meitei is just a farce, AMSU questioned the bad regulation of the Public Distribution System (PDS) and pointed out the alleged failure of the department to provide 35 kg of PDS rice to beneficiaries.
The PD & CAF Department has not been able to detail the up-to-date price list of essential commodities to the public, AMSU said.
The union said most of the State Governments in the country provide price lists of all essential commodities for public convenience.
AMSU pointed out that fetching consumer items through the Ukhrul Jessami road cannot be the determining factor of the present sharp price rise.
Prices of rice, sugar, kerosene and ata flour given to APL, BPL and AAY beneficiaries should be made known to the public, the union demanded.
AMSU is all prepared to take up further agitation over the issue further reiterating its resolve that goods will not be allowed to sell at higher prices.
