Imphal, September 12 2015 :
Angry villagers of Ramrei on Saturday blocked the passage of a Government team led by ADC Ukhrul who was proceeding towards Ramrei Village for the construction of a road connecting with Lamlai Khunou.
According to sources, a team of Government officials coming from Mapithel Dam side led by ADC Ukhrul Dimpu Kamei and Sub-divisional Officer (SDO), Phungyar S Khapudang along with Executive Engineer and staff members from Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) and Litan Police Station Officer In-charge came towards Ramrei village in the afternoon along with one bull dozer and a Tata truck with materials for construction of a road connecting Ramrei and Ramrei Aze.

A large number of villagers came out on the road and protested against the Government team for interfering in the construction work which the villagers already started on their own from August 25 under the aegis of Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation.
The women folk even tried to set ablaze the vehicles and machines as the officers refused to take them back.
However, the bull dozer, Tata truck and other materials were made to return to the dam side around 4.30 pm.
During the brief meeting with protesters and Government officials, ADC Dimpu Kamei appealed the villagers for a solution and warned that the Government will execute its plans using any means.
The villagers strongly objected to what the ADC said.
Meanwhile, Ramrei village Headman Shimdhar said the Government's effort to forcibly execute its plans will bring no positive results.
He alleged that the Government tried setting up a camp on his land for deploying security personnel.
He wants the government to immediately desist from doing the same so as not to create unwanted situations.
