Speaking at the gathering, Dr K Sushila, while lauding the community services done by AMAWOVA specially for the welfare of womenfolk during the past 27 years, said that Manipur needs greater number of social organisations like AMAWOVA.
Parents specially mothers need to strictly monitor their daughters if they are studying outside the State.
They must go to the places of their daughters at least once a year, she said.
Girls from the North Eastern region are viewed and treated with disrespect and contempt in other parts of India.
Even though Manipur is famous in the field of sports and culture, majority of the Indian people do not treat people from Manipur, specially girls, as their equals.
It is the collective responsibility of all the people to guide young girls to the right path rather than exploiting them as done by some nefarious elements, Dr Sushila said.
L Memchoubi remarked that AMAWOVA has been fighting at the forefront for the rights and interests of Manipuri women.
Pointing out that the State Assembly election is just round the corner, Memchoubi said that it is time for all the women activists to identify candidates who can best serve the interest of Manipur.
Y Kunjarani said that Manipuri women always take pro-active roles in tackling different major issues of the State and there is a need to empower women.
A music album titled Liklang Pareng composed by Laihui's Mangangsana was also released on the occasion of the 27th foundation day of AMAWOVA.
