Dy CM extends relief to fire victims

Imphal, April 10 2013:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today made a visit to Noney Bazaar to take stock of the situation there, where a number of shops and houses were burnt down to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out in the wee hours of April 8 .
Gaikhangam also provided relief materials to victims of the inferno.
He was accompanied by MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai, MLA Janghemlung Panmei, DC and ADC of Tamenglong during the visit.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the visit and distribution of relief materials to the victims, Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home portfolio, stated that the State Government is planning to set up fire service stations in all the hill districts, sub-divisions and other important areas in the hills including Noney.

The government has also decided to equip all the existing fire stations as well as the ones to be set up with the latest fire fighting equipment so as to avoid complete disaster in future.
The relief materials distributed among the Noney fire victims today included utensils, rice, potatoes, salts and a monetary assistance of Rs 1 lakh.
MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai and Janghemlung Panmei also donated Rs 50,000 each.
The ECI company, which is taking up the work for construction of railway tunnels, has also reported contributed an amount of Rs 1 lakh for the rehabilitation of the affected families and shopkeepers.
