Excise Department managed to collect revenue exceeding its target by Rs 1.4 crore during the financial year 2012-13 .
This was stated by Excise Assistant Commissioner K Joykumar at his Lamphelpat office after disposing a large quantity of country made liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor seized by Excise and police personnel.
The State Government set a target of Rs 8.59 crore for Excise Department to collect as revenue during the last financial year.
Surpassing the target, the department could collect Rs 9.96 crore during the same year.
The department took up 1868 different cases in 2012-13 and collected Rs 30.78 lakhs in the form of compound fine.

The corresponding figure for 2011-12 was just Rs 25,000, Joykumar said.
Earlier at the instruction of the Assistant Commissioner, a large quantity of country made liquor and Indian made foreign liquor was disposed off today by consigning them to flames.
Liquor disposed off today included 228 litres of country made liquor seized by Imphal police station, Lamphel police station and City police station, five cases and 14 bottles of whisky quarter bottles, six cases and four bottles of beer, 150 half bottle of whisky/rum, 46 full bottles of whisky/rum, 50 numbers of can beer and 720 litres of country made liquor seized by Excise.
Monetary value of the Indian made foreign liquor disposed today was estimated to be Rs 92,100.In addition, police handed over Rs 19,000 to Excise Department in the form of compound interest.
The drive against alcohol and intoxicating substances would be more successful if Police Department and Excise Department work with greater coordination, Joykumar added.
