Imphal, April 10 2013:
Dismissing claims by police commandos and Assam Rifles that nine PLA activists have been rounded up along with explosive materials, the proscribed outfit's Publicity secretary Roben Khuman termed the April 8 news report as yet another testimony of security forces trying to subjugate the ongoing revolutionary movement by branding innocent individuals as UG members.
A statement issued today by the secretary contended that such misleading campaigns by the security forces could not longer convince the general public as the latter are fully aware that innocent people are being frequently branded as UG elements as one of the means to receive gallantry awards or get promotion.
Recounting that the fake encounter killing of Rabina and Sanjit in broad-light at the market place had already exposed trigger-happy conduct of police commandos, Roben opined that inspite of the police commandos having realised that ongoing armed campaign is to free people of Manipur from the dominion of India they (police commandos) prefer to sustain the anti-insurgency campaigns only to gain some material benefits.
Expressing that multi-crore police modernisation drive do not mean possessing speedy vehicles, reliable weapons and communication gadgets or building police stations, the RPF statement suggested that emphasis should be on inculcating morale discipline among the police force and gaining the people's confidence.
Contrary to police force being set up to maintain law and order and instil confidence upon the masses, the general public abhorring presence of security personnel only testify corrupt morale character of the police, alleged the secretary.
He also observed that image of the police force would improve significantly in case focus is on checking social crimes such as drug smuggling, and assault of women and children.
The fact that real identity of the drug dealer(s) in the Tulihal Airport drug seizure case could not be officially disclosed till date is not only a huge failure on the part of the law enforcement agencies but a confirmation that security personnel are encouraging narcotics warfare to suppress the talented Manipuri youths with the belief that such a ploy would eventually foil the revolutionary movement, Roben maintained.
It would be better if the police force concentrate on saving the future of Manipur rather than framing innocent citizens in their pursuit for nomination of awards and service perks, added the RPF statement.
