HC gives nod to pay tributes at Cheiraoching

Imphal, April 10 2013:
The Gauhati High Court has granted permission to pay tributes at the memorial sites of nine persons at Cheiraoching on April 13 .
After perusing a plea submitted by the families of the nine persons, a Single Bench of the Court granted permission to the families, relatives and friends of the nine persons to pay tribute on the said day.
Speaking to reporters at THAU ground, representatives of the Families Committee for Observation of 13 April urged the general public to attend the memorial service at Cheiraoching on April 13 .
The representatives also appealed the womenfolk to clad with religious/traditional dress when they go to market for business and marketing on the said day.
Urging the people of all the communities of the State to join in paying tribute, the representatives of the committee also requested the general public to light up candles at their respective gates at night on the said day.
Many State denizens have sacrificed their lives to bring a change in the administration, economic policy and structure of the society, they said and added that it is the bounden duty of the people of the State to show respect, pay homage and conduct ritual ceremonies for them.
Maintaining that the State Government has been preventing the general public from paying tributes at Cheiraoching, the representatives said that the Gauhati High Court has been however granting permission for the same since 1990 .
