Imphal, February 08, 2012:
Out of 12 candidates fielded in the election to the 10th Manipur legislative Assembly the Naga People's Front (NPF) is expecting success of its six nominees even as the Front conceded that it would draw blank in Tamenglong district.
Speaking to the Sangai Express from Kohima, Manipur unit NPF president G Gaingam alleged that Congress party and its candidates in the three assembly segments of Tamenglong district resorted to use of muscle and money power thereby diluting effort of NPF candidates and party workers in the district.
Expressing that due to alleged strong-arm tactic of the Congress organisation, strength of the NPF had been forcibly subdued in Tamenglong district, Gaingam nevertheless exuded confidence that the Front will fare much better in Ukhrul, Senapati and chandel districts from where no less than six of its nominees are expected to emerge triumphantly.
He further maintained that the party is not ruling out victory of one of its candidates from Churachandpur district.
Responding to a query on post-poll alliance, he said there is no discussion yet on aligning with other political organisations for whether or not join hands in forming a new Government would depend on the outcome of the election result.
Asserting that the party representatives in the upcoming State assembly will vigorously pursue for effective implementation of all the issues included in its manifesto, he affirmed that NPF will never deviate from its pledges to the naga people.
Reacting to demands from certain political organisations for disqualification of NPF candidates, he said NPF do not expect any negative decision against the Front for it had neither sought the support nor worked with any armed groups in the election.
