Charge-sheet against false promise of marriage

Imphal, February 08, 2012:
The Imphal Police Station has filed a charge sheet in the Court of Session Judge, Manipur East against a person who abandoned his lover after false promise of marrying her and indulging in sexual relations, thereby impregnating her.
The accused person has been identified as one Moirangthem Sanju (27) s/o M Suresh of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.
The charge sheet stated that the accused deserves to be punished under Section 376 (Rape) of IPC.
The victim in the case has been identified as Khangembam Sangila (24) d/o Kh Shyam of Kumbi Bazaar Leikai but presently staying in Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.
Kh Sangila herself made a written complaint to the OC of Imphal Police Station on March 31, 2010.The Imphal Police Station later registered an FIR and investigated into the case before submitting the charge sheet to the Session Judge, Manipur East Court.
Reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao stated that in the complaint submitted to the Imphal Police Station, the victim charged that she had an affair with M Sanju for the last three years.
As she loved him truly, she was made to believe that Sanju will marry her and she complied with his demands whatsoever.
Gradually Sanju indulged sexual relation with her a number of times.
Consequently she became pregnant and she asked Sanju to marry her.
She pleaded him many times but he paid no heed to her request and even threatened her not to inform about the condition to anyone.
Later, in a meeting on March 21, 2010, Sanju told her to come to his place on March 30 and also promised her that he will marry her soon.
As told, she went to Sanju's place at 7:30 pm.
On reaching his house, she was beaten and insulted by Sanju's father and younger brother driven out of the place saying that Sanju was not at home.
Helpless she went back to her sister's place.
With all the evidences of rape and early stage of pregnancy of the victim, the accused, M Sanju was later apprehended by the police and interrogated.
The accused admitted that he deceived Sangila on the pretext of marrying her and had sexual intercourse with her a number of times.
He also admitted that he was the biological father of the child conceived by Sangila.
He was also medically examined and later remanded into judicial custody.
The charge sheet also stated that a prima facie evidence punishable under Section 376 (Rape) of IPC is well established against the accused person.
However the punishable section of under section 493/314/34 IPC cannot be established.
So the accused person is sent up before the court in charge sheet for standing his trial.
