Imphal, February 08, 2012:
Development of new roads, shifting of Government offices beyond the city limits and construction of more fly-overs would be helpful in easing traffic congestion presently causing severe inconveniences to the people in the capital area, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Manipur Traffic Control Police Y Victoria.
In an exclusive interaction with The Sangai Express at her office chamber today, the lady officer expressed that with the shifting of the Manipur Legislative Assembly complex to the Chingmeirong Capital Complex, the task of traffic police personnel has become relatively easier at the time of Assembly session.
Similarly, shifting of more Government establishments to the outskirts of the capital city will certainly diminish traffic congestion, she said while adding that development of new roads would be another factor in effective controlling of vehicular movement.
Noting that widening of roads in some areas of the twin capital districts has also contributed a lot in regulating flow of vehicular movement, Victoria suggested that in addition to expansion of the roads there is need for development of more roads to cope with the increasing num ber of vehicles in the State.

Conceding that during festive occasions and religious events, such as marriage ceremonies problems faced by traffic police personnel increase by a large extent, the traffic DSP regretted lack of cooperation by the marriage parties to effort of the traffic police to regulate flow of vehicular movement.
Highlighting that due to some months of the year considered auspicious for marriages, several holy matrimonies are conducted on the same day, Victoria also stressed on widening of existing bridges such as Sanjenthong bridge or construction of new ones, as some bridges particularly Pishum Thong (bridge) and Minuthong are considered inauspicious for both the bride and the bridegroom to cross these structures.
Further pointing out that marriage parties do not seek permission from the authority concerned despite need for such a formality, she expressed confidence that if existing rules are followed traffic personnel could work out certain measures to effectively avoid traffic congestions even during marriage season.
