Leaders of MSTC and PDF leave Imphal to meet Mamata Bannerjee

The leaders of People’s Democratic Front (PDF), an alliance of five political parties of the state which was formed to defeat the Congress and the leaders of Manipur State Trinamool Congress (MSTC) left Imphal for Kolkata today to meet Mamata Bannerjee, President All India Trinamool Congress.
The leaders of PDF who left today included Dr Nimaichand Luwang, President of MPP, who is also the Convenor of PDF and ex-MP, Thounaojam Chaoba.
The leaders of MSTC included Kim Gangte, President, MSTC and Thounaojam Shyamkumar, MSTC candidate in Andro constituency.
The leader of the Legislature Wing of MPP, O Joy already left Imphal on February 6.Although nothing could be ascertained whether his leaving Imphal has anything to do with the PDF's visit to Kolkata or not, yet apprehension prevailed that O Joy has gone to meet Mamata Bennerjee and leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party to discuss the political scenario of Manipur.
After minutely discussing the issue, the other leaders of PDF and MSTC were called for further discussion on the matter.
Since the PDF or the MSTC have not disclosed anything in this regard, nothing could be ascertained as of now.
The 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly election has left almost all the political parties in the state unsure as to how many of their respective candidates will come out successful.
Though the Trinamool Congress is a new political party in the state, it has fielded 47 candidates in the recently held Assembly election, next only to Congress which contested for all the 60 seats, but Trinamool is fully confident that it will emerge the single largest party.
As such it is believed that the party may play an important role in the formation of the government.
Considering the trend in the political history of Manipur, the prospects of Congress cannot be altogether overruled.
In the by-election in Moirang and Khundrakpam the Congress had come out victorious.
Even during the Yaiskul by-election, in the midst of the controversy over the killing of Rabina and Sanjit, the people still voted for the Congress and the party came out victorious.
However, the Congress experienced a crushing defeat in the by-election of Konthoujam at the hands of Trinamool Congress.
It was a time when none of the other parties came up to fight the election, but supported the Trinamool Congress.
The Trinamool Congress, considering the indebtedness it owes to the non-Congress parties of the state, is most likely to have positive talks with the non-Congress parties as soon as the results of the election is declared.
It can be expected that the trip of PDF and MSTC leaders of the state will certainly make the Trinamool Congress to come up with a clear stand before the results are out.
