UG members arrested

Acting on a reliable information about the presence of some actove members of United Naga People Council/Chingtam Liberation Army (UNPC/CTLA) in and around Samurou area, a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 12 Bihar Regiment conducted a search operation on November 1 and arrested one UNPC/CTLA cadre, said a statement issued by the PRO, Police Department, Manipur.
The apprehendee has been identified as Pheiga Gangmei Daithuipou alias Chamchungam alias Athui alias Angam (31), s/o (L) Gaikhangthuan Gangmei of Duithangjang village.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in extortion from general public, Government employees, businessmen, travel and transport agencies.
Incriminating articles were also seized from his possession.
On his disclosure, one s/s general secretary of UNPC/CTLA namely Jonah Bariam alias John alias Adai (41), s/o (L) Renjin Bariam of Bakwa village, Tamenglong district was also arrested from Sekmai Makha Leikai.
Jonah Bariam was also involved in extortion.
Incriminating articles were also seized from his possession.
A case has been registered at Wangoi police station for further investigation.
On the same day, a team of Imphal East district police commandos conducted frisking in and around New Checkon area after receiving information about the presence of some anti-social elements.
During the checking in front of SBI ATM booth, New Checkon, an illegal arms dealer namely Paonam Shantikumar (48), s/o (L) P Shamu Singh of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai was arrested.
Incriminating articles were seized from his possession.
On his disclosure, one 9mm pistol along with one loaded magazine with three live rounds were recovered from his shop located at Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi.
He also revealed his three associates namely Lourembam Johnson Singh alias John (31), s/o L Basanta Singh of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, Mathurashashimayum Hiranjoy Sharma alias Ngoubi (32), s/o M Haridas Sharma of Tera Sapam Leirak and Laishram Anilkumar Singh (33), s/o L Ibomcha Singh of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai who were arrested from their respective residence.
2 empty magazines of 9mm pistol along with incriminating articles were also seized from the possession of Laishram Anilkumar Singh.
A case has been registered at Porompat police station and investigation is going on.
