Imphal, May 07 2012:
Taking serious note of the tense situation resulting from land dispute between Aimol villagers and Kangoi Khunou, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation has appealed to both the sides to stay calm.
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office this afternoon, AMUCO president KT Rehaman said that AMUCO came to know about the persisting conflict situation when some AMUCO members visited the area.
AMUCO members visited Aimol Khunou yesterday and Kangoi Khunou today.
Stating that all indigenous communities of the land should take part in forming a larger Manipuri nation, the AMUCO president informed that it was with this belief AMUCO members visited and talked with the two conflicting sides separately.
To both the sides, AMUCO assured both physical and mental support.
Nonetheless, AMUCO appealed to both the sides to stay calm so as to ward off any untoward incident in the meantime.
It is regrettable that the State Government has been acting as a silent spectator when the situation has reached the potential to spark off an ugly situation, remarked KT Rehaman.
Notably, the Maring village of Kangoi is situated in the common land of nine Aimol villages in Chandel district.
According to Aimol Tribe Union Manipur president Akhup Serto, the conflict situation erupted when Kangoi villagers started felling trees from Natonjao hills which is traditionally owned by Aimols, sabotaged water pipelines and assaulted innocent villagers.
