ZUF hands over IM hostage

One NSCN-IM Sergeant Major held hostage by ZUF has been handed over to a Zeliangrong civil leaders.
S/S Sgt Maj Meikinrou Kamei alias Charlis (40) of Awangkhul (Luangchum), Tamenglong district was handed over to leaders of several Zeliangrong civil organisations led by Zeliangrong Baudi State chairman Thomas Kamei in front of media persons at a place in Tamenglong district this morning.
Speaking to media persons, ZUF joint secretary and secretary-in-charge A Ramroy said that Meikinrou was pulled up from Awangkhul at about 8 pm of January 1 .
According to Ramroy, Meikinrou has been working as Razoupyu (head of civil administration) in Awangkhul range under NSCN-IM's Zeliangrong region.
In view of the present hostility with NSCN-IM, Meikinrou could have been killed.
However, after taking into account appeals from Zeliangrong bodies and on humanitarian ground, Meikinrou has been set free unharmed as a New Year message for peace.
"If any of our men was overpowered by NSCN-IM, they would have certainly kill our man", Ramroy said.
He stated that the fundamental objectives of the ZUF are protection of Zeliangrong people including Inpui, Chiru, Kom and Kin and their land and properties.
Greeting the people of Manipur, particularly the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland on the auspicious occasion of Gaan-Ngai.
He wished that the festival may bring peace, harmony and development in Manipur.
Further appealing to the people to cast votes in accordance to their own choice in the ensuing Manipur Assembly elections, Ramroy asked all not to seek votes using threats.
He stated that the ZUF would not support any political party nor allow any one to forfeit voting rights of other people.
Zeliangrong Baudi chairman Thomas Kamei said that people would not like any more inter-UG clash in Zeliangrong area.
