Poppy cultivation destroyed

Imphal, January 07 2012:
Under the supervision of Regional Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Imphal, a joint team consisting of NCB, Imphal; 28 Assam Rifles, 46 Assam Rifles under 27 Sector Assam Rifles of Churachandpur; Churachandpur Police and AMADA have destroyed around 750 acres of illicit Poppy cultivation in South Aina of Churachandpur.
The approximate cost value of the destroyed illicit Poppy plants in the black market of India is said to be around Rs 9 crores.
It may be noted here that during last year (2011), the joint team had destroyed 904 acres of illicit Poppy cultivation worth around Rs 10.84 crores in different parts of Manipur.
