Combined force tightens grip over CorCom

Imphal, January 07 2012:
Two hardcore activists of Coordination Committee (CorCom) were apprehended by security forces along with huge cache of arms and ammunition during intensive counter-insurgency operation here with the State forces stepping up their operations against the group which has imposed a ban on Indian National Congress (INC) from contesting in the ensuing January 28- scheduled Manipur polls.
CorCom is a conglomerate of seven UG groups based in Manipur.
Acting tough against the CorCom, the State security forces managed to nab 10 members of the outfit yesterday in quick response to the unabated targets launched by the joint body of seven UG organizations at various Congress offices located in different parts of Imphal in the past three days.
CorCom has so far bombed over five Congress offices in Imphal after it announced boycott of Congress party.
In the follow up action, a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and troops of Headquarters 9 Sector AR arrested two hardcore activists of RPF/PLA, a constituent of CorCorm, during frisking and checking conducted at different strategic points at Keishamthong, Singjamei and Thongju areas from 7:30 pm of January 6 till 8 am of the following day, the district Additional Superintendent of Police, Md.Isak told newsmen at a press briefing at the city commando complex on Saturday.
The UG activists, who were nabbed by the combined security forces under direct supervision of Additional SP (Operations) Deputy SP (Operations) and Officer-in-charge Cammando Imphal West, have been identified as Athokpam Surchandra Singh alias Ningthou alias Chaothoi, 41 s/o A.Kula of Thongju Part-II bearing army number 2547 of ninth batch of 1993 and Laishram Mocha alias Ibungochouba,45 s/o(L) Puskor Singh of Singjamei Thongam Leikai.
The duo had returned from Bangladesh 15 days ago, the Additional SP added.
One Lathod gun, two 9mm pistols, five Lathod bomb shells, one Chinese handgrenade with detonator, one empty case of Lathod bomb shell and 32 rounds of .45 mm were recovered from them, Isak said.
