MSCU bats for mass development through co-operative movement

In keeping with its objective of
propagating the spirit of
cooperation to bring mass
development through
cooperative movement in the
State and its deep focus on
empowering women and
weaker section through
digitalization, the Manipur
State Co-operative Union
(MSCU) organized a district
level seminar at Kangpokpi
DHQs today.
The seminar under the
theme "Empowering of
women and weaker section
through digitization" was
sponsored by National Cooperative
Union of India,
New Delhi.
Hundreds of local
denizens including leaders
of various CSOs, Self Help
Groups, etc.
participated in
the seminar held at Community
Hall, Kangpokpi DHQs
which was graced by
Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman,
ADC Sadar Hills as
Chief Guest while L
Tombishak Singh, President,
Manipur State Cooperative
Union, Lamphelpat, Imphal
attended as president.

Speaking at the inaugural
function, ADC Sadar Hills
Chairman, Haokholal
Hangshing said that co-operative
form of organization can
no longer be treated as only a
species within the private sector,
rather it is an
indispensable instrument of
planned economic action in a
democracy.
He said that co-operative
societies, which is considered
to be one of the most important
modes of socioeconomic
upliftment play a
phenomenal role in educating
about the undeniable potential
of digital transformation
which brings unimaginable
opportunity to empower
women and weaker section to
meet their common economic,
social, and culture needs and
aspiration through jointly
owned and democratically
controlled co-operative enterprises.
The ADC Sadar Hills
chairman also suggested organizing
workshops/
seminars, exhibitions/melas,
etc in which tribal products
are displayed for sale and
popularizing the success stories
of tribal cooperatives
through print, electronic and
digital media apart from preparing
documentary films on
the subject of tribal cooperatives
so as to make the
women and weaker section
empowered and to enable
them to seize the opportunities
of digital transformation.

Union said that the cooperative
movement of India is the
largest in the world and its
philosophy can be summed up
as "each for all and all for
each" while adding that the
women co-operative societies
are promising strategy to empower
women in all the
spheres of life and its role is
not less apparent that of men.
However, L Basanta
Sharma pointed out that the
success of co-operative societies
ultimately depends upon
the cooperation level rendered
by the people and essentially
on the ability of the people.
He further said that until
recently the main statutory
functions of the cooperatives
department were registration,
audit and inspection but after
the BJP Government recognized
and utilized cooperatives
as an important instrument of
economic planning, it (cooperatives)
gained empowerment
and are now able to provide
effective guidance and knowledge
and do not merely remain
auditors and inspectors of the
Govt.
L Basanta Sharma urged
urging the people of
Manipur, both from the hills
and valley, to support and
render maximum cooperation
towards Cooperative movement
so as to bring a
developed Manipur.
L Tombishak Singh,
President, MSCU said that
the movement of co-operative
society in Manipur calls
for development from the
primary level to the level of
an apex body and the co-operative
societies need to join
hands and work as one solid
apex body in various fields.
Other dignitaries including

Jangkhongam Haokip and Sh
Hemanta also spoke on the
occasion.
