Five arrested for stealing BSNL items

Imphal, July 31 2021:
A team of Lamphel police station arrested two persons who had stolen switchbox cables, coaxial cables and a lead battery from the BSNL office at Lamphel-pat on Saturday.
In follow up action, three more persons were also arrested from a warehouse near War Cemetery Minuthong Hatta where the stolen items were cached.
The arrested people have been identified as Sangomsung Jalus (19), son of late S Saidui Rahaman of Urup Awang Leikai; Wangmem Amir Khan (20), son of W Abdulhei of Sangaiyumpham Mairen village; Hegin Haokip (32), son of late Helkam Haokip of Nungba Bazar but presently living in Hatta; Helim SK (22), son of Manarul SK of Murshidabad but presently living in Hatta and Thongam Phalguni (21), son of late Th Deven Singh of Lamphel Sanakeithel Pukhri Mapal.
According to police reports, Jalus and Amir Khan were caught red-handed by a team of Lamphel police from Lamphelpat with the stolen switchbox, coaxial cables and lead battery along with equipment used in stealing them around 2 am on Saturday.
Both are said to be involved in earlier cases of stealing from the said BSNL office.
During interrogation, the arrested duo revealed that they sold the stolen items to Ojit SK (35), son of Bola SK of Sherpur village, Murshidabad, West Bengal who kept the items at his godown located near War Cemetery Hatta.
Following this, the team raided the warehouse but the owner was not present.
Hegin Haokip and Helim SK, who were present at the godown, were arrested and they admitted of acquiring the stolen items from Jalus and Amir Khan.
They also revealed the name of Thon-gam Phalguni, who is also involved in the thievery and he (Phalguni) was also arrested.
A case has been registered at Lamphel police station in this regard.
