Vehicle lifters held, three Boleros recovered

A team of Singjamei police arrested three vehicle lifters and recovered three Boleros during the last few days.
The arrested persons and the recovered vehicles were presented before media persons at Singjamei police complex today evening.
Speaking to media persons at his office chamber, N Ingocha, Officer In-charge of Singjamei PS said that on January 3, Singjamei police received information that a white colour Bolero jeep met with an accident at Heirangoithong volleyball ground at around 3 am.
The police also received information that the occupants of the Bolero had fled from the spot while one individual was arrested by the locals.
When a police team reached the spot, the individual was in the custody of the locals.
He was later picked up by the police team from the spot.
The individual identified himself as Md Kabir Ahmad alias Sanju (21) S/o Basir Rahaman alias Nahachouba of Lilong Khunou, N Ingocha said.
During preliminary interrogation, Kabir revealed that the Bolero with registration No MN01W- 4162 which met with the accident at Heirangoithong on Jan 3 was stolen by a vehicle lifter gang from Kwakeithel Akham Leikai a few hours before they met the accident, the OC said.
The gang went to steal the vehicles in another Bolero jeep with registration number MN01K- 5083 which was also stolen by the gang members on Dec 31 night from Checkon area, the OC said.
The OC further stated that investigation is on in full swing with inputs provided by the anti-thief squad of the police under the supervision of Dr AK Jhalajit, SP (Imphal West) and Dr S Ibomcha, Additional SP (Law and Order), Imphal West.
During the course of investigation, a team of Imphal West district commando arrested two other individuals who had fled from Heirangoithong on January 3 from Lilong bridge during frisking and checking on January 11.The two arrested individuals have been later handed over to Singjamei PS, he said.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Md Nanao Khan (20) s/o (L) Abdul Khalif and Md Fajar Khan (21) s/o Md Ali, both from Lilong Khunou.
The OC further stated that on January 13, Singjamei police team were able to recover one Bolero from the residence of Md Kabir Ahmad who was arrested on January 3, N Ingocha said.
A Bolero with registration No MN04A- 6042 was recovered based on the revelation of Md Kabir Ahmad.
It was stolen by the gang from Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai on September 10 last year.
Md Nanao and Md Abdul Khalif revealed that on January 3, they drove the Bolero which they had stolen from Checkon on December 31 up to Chandel district headquarters and mortgaged the vehicle for Rs 1 lakh to one local man saying that they need the money for an emergency purpose, he said.
Later, a team of Singjamei police station went to Chandel after getting in touch with the SP Chandel and OC Chandel PS to recover the stolen Bolero which was kept on mortgage by the gang.
The police team went to the residence of the individual to whom the vehicle was mortgaged four times, but could not find the vehicle.
However, the person from Chandel surrendered the Bolero to the police yesterday after the police left a message for him to his family members asking him to report to the PS, the OC added.
