Imphal, September 14 2014:
Apart from organising public meetings, political parties have launched house to house campaigns for the by-election to 38-Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency scheduled on October 15 .
Interestingly, three prospective candidates have been vying for the BJP ticket which is heading the NDA Government at the Centre.
MPCC vice-president and former MLA Elangbam Dwijamani is preparing to contest the by-election on a Congress ticket.
Meanwhile, M Amutombi has launched a full-scale election campaign and he is contesting the by-election on MPP ticket.
Notably, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) president Th Shyamkumar has already declared that the party would field their candidates in the by-election.
The by-election has been necessitated after the expiry of sitting MLA Maibam Kunjo on August 11 who was elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on a Trinamool Congress ticket.
Ashokumar Laiphrakpam, Maibam Dhanabir and Yumnam Radheshyam are vying for BJP ticket.
Maibam Dhanabir is a son of late MLA Kunjo.
Ashokumar Laiphrakpam and Yumnam Radheshyam contested the last Assembly election on BJP and CPI tickets respectively.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the BJP Hiyanglam Mandal held yesterday, after taking due consideration of the fact that Ashokumar Laiphrakpam contested the last Assembly election under the banner of BJP, unanimously agreed to field Ashokumar once again as a BJP candidate.
Interestingly, Radheshyam and Dhanabir have not been enrolled in BJP so far even though they are vying for BJP ticket.
MPCC vice-president Elangbam Dwijamani who is preparing to contest the by-election on INC ticket lost in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to late M Kunjo by just 17 votes.
Even though BJP and MPP formed an alliance in the last Lok Sabha election, the two parties are likely to go for in friendly contest in the by-election.
