The Agriculture Department, Manipur has selected 20 female farmers and they left Imphal today to attend a training programme on the functionality of agricultural farm machinery and equipment which would be held at North Eastern Regional Farm Machinery and Training Institute, Bishwanath Charialy, Assam.
Reportedly, the programme would also train the farmers on how to repair or fix the machineries.
Meanwhile, K Manoranjan who is the Chief Engineer of Agriculture and CADA has also left Imphal to attend another training programme on 'Gender friendly farm machinery equipment for women farmers' which would also be conducted at the same institute from September 15 to September 26 .
According to a source, all travel expenses along with accommodation and meals for the trainees have been sponsored by the institute.
K Manoranjan has also monitored the import of new agricultural equipment called "paddy thrasher" before he left for the training.
The new equipment has been kept at the Farm Mechanisation unit, Lamphelpat.
The department has fixed the price of the equipment at a much lower rate in the interest of the farmers.
The equipment would be made available with the support of subsidies which would be provided under the programme 'Post Harvest Technology Management'.
This programme was planned under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, India, the source added.
