Imphal, September 14 2014:
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) Staff Welfare Association, Manipur has strongly condemned the statement of the Transporters and Drivers Council published on Sept.
13 which charged the Deputy General Manager of FCI with putting ban on ferrying of rice on Imphal-Jiribam Highway.
In a press release issued today by its Secretary, the Association denounced the Transporters and Drivers Council for submitting memorandum to the state Chief Minister for removal of the Deputy General Manager of FCI, who has been working for the welfare of the people as well as its staff.
Consequent to the expiry of the contract period of the transport firm, the FCI Regional Office initiated the process for selection of new contractor for transportation of rice from Jiribam to Imphal, recalled the release, while narrating that the process has been delayed as some parties filed cases in the High Court and Supreme Court requesting for cancellation of tender and exemption of penalty amount due to delayed payment of security deposit.
However, the DGM of FCI Manipur has been putting efforts to effect recruitment of new transport firm by ending the court cases, said the Association's release.
Even though transportation of rice to Jiribam by Railways is to be ended from 1st October 2014, the DGM of FCI Manipur sent a proposal to continue transportation of rice on Jiribam Imphal highway.
Accordingly, FCI Assam Region as a dispatching region started transporting rice from Jagiroad to Jiribam by appointing a contractor, it continued.
Saying that sufficient quantity of rice more than the stipulated is now being stocked at the Godown of FCI Jiribam, the Association claimed that the allegation of the Transporters and Drivers Council against DGM of FCI Manipur is totally baseless.
