CM bats for bank branches

Chief Minister O Ibobi today presided a meeting of the State level Bankers Committee and instructed the bankers to open bank branches in all blocks of hill districts where there is no banking facility till now.
The meeting was held in the conference hall of Old Secretariat and the committee's activities were also reviewed during the meeting, informed an official source.
Although the Chief Minister is also in charge of Finance Department, he seldom attended the committee's periodic meetings.
As such, most of the meetings were presided Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), high ranking officials of RBI, NABARD, different banks and departments were also present at the meeting.
Chief Minister O Ibobi asked all concerned to open bank branches in all the 27 blocks of the State where no bank branches exist till now.
Opening of bank branches in these blocks were delayed citing security reasons and lack of physical infrastructure.
Nonetheless, block offices, security barracks and buildings which would serve as bank branches have been constructed in these blocks under the Tribal Inclusive Growth Project.
It is reported that bank branches may be opened in six of the 27 blocks by March this year.
