Social scientist Prof BK Roy Burman who embarked on a padyatra mission till Kakching sub-division of Thoubal district to express solidarity with the people of Manipur in their movement against the imposition of AFSPA returned to Imphal today.
Speaking at the Manipur Press Club premise during a reception ceremony, Prof Roy informed that he will call on the Governor Dr SS Sindhu on October 12 to discuss the people�s demand for removal of the Act.
Stating that he will also meet members/leaders of political parties, Prof Roy informed that a formal proposal to meet the Chief Minister has failed to evoke any response from the latter.
Stating that AFSPA itself violates the very essence of civilised society and human value, he said the desire of the people of Manipur to live with dignity, justice and with a sense of security would be conveyed to Central leaders on his return to Delhi.
Despite intervention by the police at various places during his march till Kakching, tremendous response of the people had encouraged him and other padyatra participants to overcome all the impediments, he said.
Padyatra companion and social activist Th Brajamani extended gratitude to the school children and general public who heartily welcomed the padyatris from Imphal till Kakching.
Social worker N Brajamani and rights activist (Cohr) Phulindro Konsam also took part in the march till Kakching while retired Principal of DMC Dr DS Sharma accompanied them till Lilong.
