A male buffalo which had seriously injured a maiba (local physician) after escaping from a slaughter house was shot dead by personnel of the Imphal East Commandos at Khomidok Ipum Mapan two kms south east of Heingang PS this morning at around 9.The injured maiba has been identified as one Md Manirkhan (55) of Khomidok Maning Leikai.
According to reports, Md Manirkhan was attacked by the buffalo while he was sitting at the courtyard of one Md Rahimu- ddin at Khomidik Ipum Leikai.
Manirkhan had come to treat Rahimuddin's son Marij (6) who is suffering from jaundice.
Manirkhan who was dragged inside the house by the buffalo was rescued by the locals who had gathered on hearing the commotion.
However the buffalo escaped with the locals hot on its trail.
On receiving reports about the incident, personnel of Imphal East commandos rushed to the scene and shot dead the buffalo.
The dead buffalo was later retrieved by Hein-gang police.
Md Manirkhan who sustained serious injuries on the left thigh has been admitted to JN Hospital.
The owner of the buffalo has been identified as Md Taher Ali (40) of Irong Teshaba presently residing at Nagaram.
